Age from 8 - 11 years old

Cub Scouts are girls and boys aged between 8 and 11 years old who love fun and adventure. They learn new skills each week and may spend weekends camping and learning bushcraft.  All Cub Scouts are good at and enjoy different things, but everyone gets to have a go at all the activities and can earn special badges to demonstrate their skills and achievements.

Australian Cub Scouts all wear the Cub Scout Uniform which includes a shirt with a yellow shoulder panel, group name tapes on the sleeves and their Group's scarf.

Cub Scouts help each other, and try to help other people too. Using Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" as a theme with a strict moral code, Cub Scouts participate in games and activities which teach about self, family and community.

Cub Scout Leaders are adults who often take scout names from "The Jungle Book" such as 'Bagheera' (The Panther - the teacher of hunting) or `Baloo' (The Bear - the teacher of Jungle Law).  There are up to 24 boys and girls in a Cub Scout Pack which is divided into Sixes, so named because each 'Six' will have about 6 people in it.  One of the boys or girls in the Six, will be the 'Sixer' (a reliable and usually older Cub Scout who is a good role model for younger Cub Scouts) who helps the other Cub Scouts.  The Sixer often has a 'Second' as a helper.  Most Cub Scouts will eventually take their turn in these leadership roles.
